Starting in 2026, non-itemizers can deduct up to $1,000 ($2,000 for married couples filing jointly) in cash charitable donations, according to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) passed in 2025. This permanent, “above-the-line” deduction applies only to cash gifts made to qualified organizations including Project Liberia, but excludes donations to donor-advised funds (DAFs).

Key 2026 Charitable Deduction Rules for Non-Itemizers

  • Deduction Amount: Single filers can deduct up to $1,000, and married filing jointly can deduct up to $2,000.
  • Eligibility: Applies to taxpayers who take the standard deduction, which is $16,100 for single and $32,200 for married filing jointly in 2026.
  • Qualified Donations: Only cash, check, or credit card contributions to qualifying charities such as Project Liberia qualify. Contributions to Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) do not qualify for this specific deduction.
  • Permanence: Unlike previous temporary COVID-era provisions, this new deduction has no set sunset date.

Donations made by check avoid the 3% processing fee that credit card providers assess and is an efficient way to support our mission.  Checks should be made payable to Project Liberia and mailed to:

Donor Advised Funds have become a preferred charitable-giving vehicle for millions of Americans. A DAF is like a charitable investment account, allowing donors to donate assets and receive a tax-deduction now, while paying those assets out now or over time to the charities they care about. Here’s a quick overview:

Various institutions such as Fidelity Charitable allow you to set up your own Donor Advised Fund under their umbrella. You can then contribute cash, publicly traded stocks, real estate and other assets into your DAF. When giving appreciated stock to a DAF, capital gains are not taxed. You are considered to have made a charitable gift when you contribute to your DAF.

A contribution to a donor-advised fund is an irrevocable commitment to charity; the funds cannot be returned to the donor or any other individual or used for any purpose other than grantmaking to charities. But while you’re deciding which charities to support, your donation can potentially grow, making available even more money for charities. You can make additional contributions into your DAF at any time, and you can request charitable distributions (sometimes referred to as grants) from your DAF at any time.

If you choose to make a donation to Project Liberia from your DAF, you will need to provide your fund administrator with our Federal Tax ID number 84-4130660 and our mailing address:

Project Liberia

They will then issue a check and mail it to us.  Please also consider setting up a monthly recurring donation from your DAF to support our ongoing mission.

If you’re looking for a tax-smart way to share your blessings with our mission in Liberia, consider a gift of stock, mutual funds, or other marketable securities. A gift of appreciated securities held for more than one year can result in two tax benefits: a charitable itemized deduction and avoidance of tax on the capital gain. Even if you do not itemize your deductions and instead claim the standard deduction, you will still benefit by avoiding the capital-gains tax on the gifted security.  By giving in this way, your tax-advantaged gift has a greater impact on the important work of training leaders to share the gospel.

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows individuals aged 70½ or older to transfer up to $111,000 annually from their IRA directly to a qualified charity such as Project Liberia tax-free. This transfer satisfies Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) without increasing taxable income.

You must be at least 70½ years old at the time of the distribution.

Eligible Accounts: Traditional IRA, inherited IRA, inactive SEP, or inactive SIMPLE IRAs.

Tax Treatment: The funds are not included in your gross income, meaning you do not pay taxes on the distribution, but you also cannot claim a charitable deduction.

RMD Satisfaction: A QCD counts toward your RMD requirement, allowing you to give to charity instead of paying taxes on forced withdrawals.

Direct Transfer Requirement: Funds must be transferred directly from the IRA custodian to the charity.

Charity Type: The charity must be a 501(c)(3) organization. Donor-advised funds, private foundations, and supporting organizations are generally ineligible.

Supporting Project Liberia after your lifetime means you’ll help Jesus’ kingdom continue to grow through educating new leaders at Christopolis Christian University. You can designate Project Liberia as a beneficiary through a life insurance policy or through your retirement plan. Simply request a beneficiary change form from your policy provider or plan administrator. Designating Project Liberia as a beneficiary is one of the simplest, most convenient ways to ensure that future leaders receive comprehensive, accredited education in the gospel.

You can make a powerful difference by giving through your will or living trust. A gift in your will or living trust invests in the ongoing mission of Project Liberia to prepare leaders to share the gospel and transform communities. Whether you give a set amount or a percentage of your estate, your gift will enable us to continue spreading the good news of Jesus throughout Liberia and beyond.

It’s simple to do, but you may need the help of a qualified estate planning attorney to ensure your bequest meets your personal, financial and philanthropic goals. If you need any assistance, please let us know.

If you’ve already included Project Liberia in your Legacy plan, please share the good news with us. We would be honored to thank you for your gift.

As our ministry has grown, so has the need for consistent, reliable funding to sustain the momentum. We currently have 42 full and part-time employees in Liberia working in a wide range of capacities from grade school teachers to minister/evangelists. We are pleased to offer a sponsorship program that will enable you to support a member of our team through a recurring monthly donation. We have grouped our folks into seven tiers to provide opportunities for you to participate at different budget levels, as follows:

In order to protect the privacy and security of our team members, we do not show their names or images online. Once you have enrolled, a volunteer member of our board will pair you with an employee and provide you with a brief introduction to them including their first name, photo, and some background information about them. We will also provide occasional updates on the employee you support, sharing their progress and accomplishments in advancing God’s kingdom. Please be assured, we will never share any information about you with the employee you sponsor or with anyone in Liberia – or anywhere else.

The generosity of our supporters is what has enabled us to reach so many Liberians for the first time with the good news of Jesus! Please join us in sustaining this momentum by enrolling as a Sponsor today! A simple and cost-effective way is to set up a recurring monthly donation through your bank’s online bill pay feature.

To donate by credit or debit card the link below will transfer you to Givelify, our payment processing platform. Givelify displays preset donation amounts that cannot be edited to match our sponsorship levels, so please select the box labeled Other and type in your selected dollar amount, then select Sponsor a Project Liberia Employee, then Set Recurring and Monthly.
